The Maria Church was inaugurated on August 28, 1994. The architect, Olle Meeths, designed the church based on the architecture in Norrbotten's countryside: the red colour typical for Norrbotten farmhouses, the white-framed windows and the barn's whitewashed surfaces characterise the church. The church as well as most of the furnishing is made of wood. The church has a stone foundation. The cross on the roof is coated with pure gold. Gold symbolizes divinity.
The design for the bell tower was inspired by the former bell tower of the Nederluleå Church. The church bells were manufactured by Bergholtz bell foundry in Sigtuna.
